PC Gamer is the global authority on PC games. We’ve been covering PC gaming for more than 20 years, and continue that legacy today with worldwide print editions and around-the-clock news, features, esports coverage, hardware testing and game reviews on PCGamer.com, as well as major yearly events including the PC Gaming Show.
Easy – don’t buy a gaming headset, ever. Buy a decent pair of headphones of your choosing that do well in gaming, and buy a separate attachable mic. Wired headset too, none of this wireless garbage that guarantees sound lag regardless of the brand. Also get an external USB sound DAC to plug in to if on PC – removes internal noise contamination and acts as a sound card, you plug your headset and mic in to the DAC and away you go.
Underrated such a good quality of editing, entertaining to watch, really useful
why isnt this popular?
Great informative video, great editing, and nice to hear some quality review advice.
Would love your thoughts on noise cancelling headphones. Wish I had this tutorial years ago tbh.
This video exemplifies why I don’t trust PC Gamer.
Point 1 is all it took.
Wired is better. Period.
You pay more for wireless, there most certainly is a delay, and he didn’t even bring up battery life.
You know what never ever EVER happens to me when I game? My headphones, my mouse, and my keyboard NEVER die mid fight.
Why? Because they’re all wired and I don’t ever have to worry about losing a raid or a match or failing my teammates b/c I’m not a dumbass who uses wireless stuff.
If you have a VERY GOOD REASON that you need wireless that isn’t just “It’s convenient”, then go for wireless.
But if you don’t have a specific need for wireless, you should always go wired. Less expensive, less latency, and no chance of randomly screwing you mid-match b/c the battery decided to go out.
Finally, the brands shown are all “gaming” headsets. That’s not a good thing. “Gaming” has become a generic term that has no value or meaning and just incurs a premium price tag.
Consider getting a GOOD normal headset. Forget the “gaming” gimmick.
Look into something like a Seinheiser HD6XX series, AKG K612 Pro, Shure SRH840, or something of the sort.
Get yourself a good set of headphones and external mic and you will never go back. Don’t buy “gaming” labeled stuff b/c you’re usually paying a premium price for a sub-premium product.
